Egyptian security forces identified and detained three students after a video circulated on social media showing a car being driven recklessly on a road in Gharbiyah province, in the Nile Delta, with two passengers sitting outside the vehicle's windows, one holding a knife. The Interior Ministry said the footage exposed the occupants and other road users to serious danger.
The ministry said police located and seized the vehicle, which had valid registration. The driver was a student living in the Santah police precinct area, as were the two passengers who exited the vehicle. Security forces recovered the knife shown in the video from one of the passengers.
The three students admitted during questioning to the incident, which occurred on August 21, according to the ministry. They told authorities the dangerous driving was intended to celebrate a friend's wedding. The ministry said legal proceedings were being taken against them.
