Egyptian security authorities said they had identified and arrested a man depicted in a video circulating on social media who appeared to brandish a knife and attempt to strike another person in Cairo.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that no formal complaint had been filed about the incident when it initially reviewed the video. Investigators identified the victim as the owner of an auto repair shop in the Mokatam police district.
When questioned, the victim told authorities that a dispute had occurred roughly a month earlier with a man over the latter sitting outside his repair shop. The victim said the man had attempted to strike him with a white blade during the altercation and that he had not filed a report at the time.
Security officials said they located and arrested the suspect, identified as a worker residing in the area. They said he directed them to recover the knife used in the incident. When confronted by investigators, the suspect confessed to the altercation, authorities said, citing ongoing disagreements between the two men as motivation.
