The Democratic Republic of Congo said Thursday it would move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The announcement came after a visit by President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi.
In a joint statement, the two countries said they would take steps for "the relocation of the embassy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem." No timeline was given for the move.
The step puts Congo among a small group of countries, including the United States, that have shifted their Israeli embassies to Jerusalem. The status of Jerusalem remains disputed, with Palestinians claiming the eastern part of the city as the capital of a future independent state.
