Israel announced on Tuesday that the submarine Drakon had departed from the German shipbuilder TKMS's yard in Kiel, bound for Israel. The announcement marked the completion of the joint planning and construction phase between Israel and Germany and the start of the submarine's transit to the country. Israeli military and Defence Ministry officials said it was the sixth submarine to be delivered to Israel.
The Israeli navy commander, senior Defence Ministry officials, Israel's ambassador to Berlin and the German navy commander attended a ceremony at the shipyard marking the submarine's departure. The Drakon is the third and final submarine in the Dolphin-class (AIP) series being supplied to Israel under a joint construction arrangement between the two countries.
