Cairo's General Traffic Authority is implementing traffic diversions as construction work proceeds to connect a sewerage drainage line for the Mayaan project to the Old Suez Road's main descent network in the Jabal al-Asfar area.
The work requires a full closure of the Old Suez Road at the Muhammad Najib exit in the direction of the Family Park, with traffic diversions put in place to ease vehicle movement and prevent congestion.
Motorists from the New Cairo areas heading toward the Family Park will use Muhammad Najib axis to Ahmad Urabi Square, then turn left onto Youssef al-Siba'i axis, and then left again onto Martyr Lieutenant General Shafei Abdel-Halim Road before returning toward the Old Suez Road. Those heading to the Old Suez Road from Muhammad Najib axis will turn right before the Al-Morshedy fish restaurant toward Martyr Lieutenant General Shafei Abdel-Halim axis, then proceed toward the Old Suez Road from the square.
The General Traffic Authority said the closure will last 24 hours starting Friday, September 4, 2026. The authority confirmed that traffic services will be deployed around the work zone in coordination with construction contractors, with technical support and equipment marking the site to ensure public safety and traffic flow.
