Cairo's supply authority conducted a broad inspection campaign across the Egyptian capital to monitor commodity availability, reinforce market controls and track prices for goods, according to the agency. The effort followed directives from Sherif Farouk, Egypt's minister of supply and domestic trade, and Ibrahim Saber, Cairo's governor.
Inspectors seized a vehicle carrying 400 household gas cylinders of 12.5 kilograms each as a driver attempted to divert them to black-market sales, according to the authority. Officials also issued a citation to a butane depot for illegally distributing 40 commercial gas cylinders weighing 25 kilograms each.
In related operations, supply inspectors seized 500 liters of cooking oil and 350 liters of tahini of unknown origin and without commercial documentation, the authority said. Officials filed reports and referred the cases to the prosecutor general's office for investigation.
Supply officials across Cairo's districts conducted additional field raids that resulted in 174 citations for various supply violations, the agency said. Officials said the enforcement effort would continue to ensure subsidized goods reach eligible recipients and maintain market stability.
