The Women's Super League 2 season begins Friday when Watford host Burnley in the opening fixture of the 12-team campaign. The league has adopted a revised promotion format following the expansion of the top-division WSL this summer. Only the WSL2 champions are guaranteed promotion to the top flight.
Teams finishing second and third will now compete in a new pre-qualifying match to determine which one advances to face the WSL's second-bottom side in the end-of-season promotion-relegation playoff. This change creates an additional layer of competition beyond the standard league table.
