A study commissioned by Pesticide Action Network has found that farmers and farm workers worldwide experience an estimated 402 million to 433 million cases of unintentional acute pesticide poisoning each year. The study analyzed publicly available data from 2006 to 2023. The figures suggest that nearly half of the world's farming workforce is poisoned by pesticides annually.
The research also found that pesticide poisoning kills approximately 11,000 people each year. India accounts for nearly 60 percent of these fatalities, according to the study.
