Crystal Temptations, based in North Arlington, New Jersey, is recalling its Chocolatey Eyeballs candy because the products contain undeclared milk allergens. The company said people with milk allergies or severe sensitivities face the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.
The recalled candy was distributed through Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, and Sierra Trading Post in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming. The product comes in five varieties identified by packaging type and size: a 10-ounce plastic bag with header card, a 7-ounce acrylic box, a 10.5-ounce round plastic jar, a 16-ounce designer plastic pouch, and an 11-ounce plastic bag tied with a tag.
A TJX analyst discovered that the chocolates contained whey, a milk derivative, but were packaged without milk allergen labeling. Crystal Temptations said the problem stemmed from a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging processes.
No illnesses have been reported. The company is urging consumers to destroy the product and said refunds are available only by contacting Crystal Temptations directly with proof of purchase at 1-201-246-7990, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
