Sean Ono Lennon and longtime partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl announced the birth of their son, Aurelius, on Tuesday night in an Instagram post. The couple shared photographs of themselves cradling the newborn, with Muhl described as a model and musician who has worked with Ono Lennon in the band The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
Aurelius is the first grandchild of Yoko Ono and John Lennon, the late member of The Beatles who was killed in December 1980 when Sean Ono Lennon was five years old. Ono Lennon, 50, has performed and recorded music throughout his adult life.
Muhl, 39, shared a separate series of photographs on Instagram documenting the birth, accompanying them with a caption that read, "We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code." She added observations about sleep deprivation and noted she had played music by Aphex Twin and Stravinsky to the newborn.
The birth drew congratulations from several musicians and actors, including Zak Starkey, the drummer and son of Beatles member Ringo Starr, and punk musician Patti Smith, who wrote, "Oh Sean I'm so happy for you both." Earlier this year, Ono Lennon released an album with Les Claypool of Primus under the name Claypool Lennon Delirium.
