President Trump said Friday that the Strait of Hormuz "is open" and characterized Iran's response as "very mild." Trump said Iran did not want further confrontation with the United States, adding that this dynamic determined the broader situation in the region.
The commander of CENTCOM, the U.S. military's Central Command, said the military had successfully removed sea mines from international shipping lanes in the strait that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had laid months earlier. The commander said internationally recognized transit routes in the strait were now free of Iranian sea mines.
The commander added that "international shipping lanes are open and momentum is building" as a result of the mine clearing operation.
