Nepal plans to rebuild an early-warning system for landslides on part of its border with China, according to two Nepali government sources. The system will include seismic sensors, cameras and a satellite link in the Rasuwa district.
The equipment is being installed at Timure, a border settlement located along the river corridor where a collapsing glacier created a massive surge of mud, water and rock that moved through mountain valleys. The project comes a week after the glacial flood killed more than 1,000 people.
