Tankers and cargo ships moving through the Bosphorus strait have begun fitting themselves with nets, water tanks and tyres in attempts to ward off drone strikes, according to security experts and video reviewed by Reuters.
The Russian-flagged cargo ship Omskiy-107 was abandoned after its command deck caught fire, then drifted from Russian waters onto a beach east of the Bosphorus. The Bosphorus is one of the world's busiest shipping routes, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea.
Attacks by Russian and Ukrainian drones on merchant shipping in the Black Sea have intensified in recent months, targeting both military and civilian vessels.
