Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Sunday the arrest of what it said was an eight-member armed cell linked to the monarchist movement in the southern province of Fars.

The IRGC, the elite military force answerable to Iran's supreme leader, did not immediately provide details of the alleged plot or the identities of those arrested.

The announcement comes as Iran has faced sporadic anti-government demonstrations since the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody in September 2022 sparked nationwide unrest.
