"Always Lalisa," a documentary about Blackpink member Lisa, will open in Imax and cinemas worldwide for a limited run beginning Oct. 12, Sony Music Vision announced. Directed by Sue Kim, the film follows Lisa during a pivotal year as she steps away from Blackpink, the South Korean pop group, for the first time since childhood to pursue a solo music career, acting roles and brand partnerships while maintaining her privacy.
The film will be distributed theatrically by Trafalgar Releasing before moving to YouTube Premium for an exclusive streaming release later in 2026. The documentary is set to premiere at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival ahead of its theatrical run.
Tom Mackay, president of Sony Music Vision, said the company hoped the film would create "that same powerful connection" with audiences as Lisa's music does with fans globally. Marc Allenby, chief executive of Trafalgar Releasing, described it as an unguarded look at Lisa's path to international recognition and said fans had been waiting for the story.
Lisa's profile has grown significantly this year. She performed at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first female K-pop and Thai artist to perform at that stage, and performed as a solo act at Coachella 2025. She was also the first K-pop artist to serve on the 2026 Met Gala host committee and presented at the 2026 Golden Globes. She made her acting debut in HBO's "The White Lotus" and has two Netflix projects in development, including the action film "Tygo" in which she will star and serve as executive producer. Her upcoming EP "Press Play" is scheduled for Oct. 23.
Lisa became the first K-pop artist to hold a Las Vegas residency, with four shows titled "Viva La Lisa" at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace set for Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 27-28 that sold out in under ten minutes, according to Sony Music Vision.
