Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Tuesday he was ready to restart trade negotiations with the United States, but signalled that American officials would first need to change their approach at the negotiating table.
Carney walked away from talks last week, citing what he described as American inflexibility. In his latest comments, he suggested the US delegation was focused on rhetorical posturing rather than substantive discussion.
"When the Americans stop doing memes, stop throwing shade, stop trying to be tough," Carney said, implying that serious negotiations could resume under different conditions.
