Jewish communal organisations in Britain have lobbied Prime Minister Andy Burnham over his government's planned ban on trade with Israeli settlements. The Board of Deputies of British Jews said in a joint statement that representatives met Burnham and Communities Secretary Angela Rayner at Downing Street to raise concerns about the policy.

The organisations said they had "conveyed significant concerns about the unintended consequences of policies the government is considering in relation to settlements," according to the statement. They highlighted what they described as the "potentially perverse consequences" of announcing such measures while Israel is in the midst of a general election.

The government has not yet announced the timing or details of the settlement trade ban.
