Argentine President Javier Milei said on Thursday he would impose stricter sanctions on companies involved in oil projects around the Falkland Islands. He also pledged to increase defense resources in Argentina's southern region and send Congress legislation aimed at strengthening the country's response to what he characterized as violations of sovereignty.

In a televised address, Milei said he would sign a decree to accelerate sanctions under Argentine law against companies participating in oil and gas extraction in territory Argentina claims but which remains under British control.
