Danny Boyle's Ink opened the 83rd Venice Film Festival on Wednesday evening. The film is based on James Graham's Tony-nominated play of the same name, with Graham also writing the screenplay.
The film centers on Rupert Murdoch's acquisition of The Sun newspaper and its rise to become Britain's bestselling tabloid. Mark Ruffalo plays the paper's editor, Larry Lamb, while Michael Pearce portrays Murdoch; Claire Foy stars as Jules Davies.
Studiocanal financed the film entirely and will release it in Italy, the UK, France, Germany, Poland, the Benelux region, Australia and New Zealand. Netflix will release the film in United States cinemas on December 11, with the film arriving on the streaming service on January 8.
StudioCanal releases the film in the UK on January 8. Tessa Ross and Michael Ellenberg produce alongside Boyle, reuniting Ross and Boyle after their collaboration on Slumdog Millionaire.
