Libya's National Oil Corporation issued a formal statement Thursday denying reports about its spending, according to Energy Platform, a specialized outlet based in Washington. The corporation rejected figures that had been circulating about expenditures described by some outlets as welfare provisions totaling 267 million dollars.

The figures had sparked widespread controversy after data began circulating claiming the state oil company had spent large sums on the disputed items. The National Oil Corporation's statement came in response to the reports published on Energy Platform.

The corporation did not provide detailed figures of its own spending in the statement obtained by the outlet.
